About The Black Sip
The Black Sip was created to celebrate the work of minority winemakers in an industry historically dominated by a narrow demographic. Through our wine subscription club, curated content, and thoughtfully designed merchandise, we're fostering a more inclusive and equitable wine industry by providing them with a platform to showcase their exceptional products—one bottle at a time.
Why I Created TBS
Supporting Black-Owned Wine Brands
Black people make up over 10% of U.S. wine consumers, yet Black-owned wineries account for less than 1% of all wineries, due to systemic barriers like limited capital and industry bias. By sharing their stories and highlighting their work, we help these winemakers thrive and inspire greater support for inclusivity in the wine industry.
Creating a Safe Space
- Wine culture can feel intimidating, and people of color are often overlooked or stereotyped when it comes to wine preferences. The Black Sip is here to change that. We're creating a warm, judgment-free environment where we can discover what we truly enjoy, learn about our palates, and explore a variety of wines together.
Encouraging Representation in the Wine Industry
People of color are often overrepresented in roles like harvesting but remain unseen in areas like leadership, production, and specialized careers. We shed light on the opportunities within the wine industry—whether it’s winemaking, marketing, or even chemistry—so we can imagine and pursue new paths.
